Three Ways To Prescribe HUMATIN™ (Paromomycin Sulfate) Capsules

If you’ve diagnosed your patient with acute or chronic intestinal amebiasis, also known as amoebiasis or amoebic dysentery, or you want to provide an adjunctive therapy to patients with hepatic encephalopathy to manage hepatic coma, there are three ways to prescribe HUMATIN™ (paromomycin sulfate) capsules through the HUMATIN Total Care program. Regardless of which route you choose, the HUMATIN Total Care program focuses on safety, dosing education, and efficacy.

Note: To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of HUMATIN™ capsules, and other antibacterial drugs, HUMATIN™ capsules should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.

Dosage Administration

Before you prescribe HUMATIN™, refer to the dosage information: 

  • Intestinal amebiasis
    • Adults and pediatric patients: Usual dose—25 to 35 mg/kg body weight daily, administered in three doses with meals, for five to ten days.
  • Management of hepatic coma
    • Adults: Usual dose—4 g daily in divided doses, given at regular intervals for five to six days.

Call

One way you can prescribe HUMATIN™ is by calling an Optime Care representative at 1-844-486-2846. They will guide you from start to finish on the prescription process, such as how to fill out the online enrollment form, and answer any questions you may have.

Fax

You can also fax the online enrollment form directly to an Optime Care representative. Fill out the enrollment form, including patient and prescriber information, patient diagnosis, insurance information, and lab tests confirming diagnosis. Once complete, fax the form to 833-488-1141.  

Electronic Prescription 

If you want to prescribe HUMATIN™ directly through your healthcare system, you can do an electronic prescription by looking up the NPI #1811358138. Then select “Optime Care, Inc.” as the specialty pharmacy, or select a Walgreens pharmacy. If the specialty pharmacy does not appear, please contact your e-prescribing provider to update your system. The information should appear as “Optime Care, Inc, 4060 Wedgeway Court Earth City, MO 63045.” Then, save the specialty pharmacy in your system, and transmit the prescription.
